Seven years after 21 Equality Riders and students from Vassar College were arrested at the gates of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, two alumni of the school, Daniel Lennox (class of 2007) and Larry Choate III (class of 2009) were married in the Academy’s chapel by a military chaplain. Although the two did not meet until after graduation, their class years suggest they were among the closeted cadets that were behind the military police barricades when Soulforce approached with the intention of sparking dialogue about LGBTQ issues. The Lennox-Choates are not the first same-sex couple to wed on the campus. Two lesbian couples married there in 2012.
